Mission 4, day 4: Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) Reason why biblically

October 22, 2009

Hi fellow friends, family and shredders,

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), the aka “No pain, no gain,” is an interesting topic and any novice or professional athlete alike knows the feeling of soreness after starting a new training season or new way of training specific muscle groups.

Everyone knows what DOMS is, but the reason of why is not quite known, nor is the specific root cause at the cellular level. Never-the-less…

I think I know why DOMS occurs biblically.

You see, quite some time ago God booted Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden when they chose to sin against God by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Right after this God said:

17 “….Cursed is the ground because of you;
through painful toil you will eat of it
all the days of your life.
18 It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
and you will eat the plants of the field.
19 By the sweat of your brow
you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
and to dust you will return.”
Genesis 3:17-19 (NIV)

So there we have it, the first example of DOMS, as it was commissioned by God.

The first time Adam and Eve left the easy presence of God, we went out to the work the ground through painful toil that caused us to sweat so we could eat.

Today, very few of us have to sweat to obtain food. Many of us do sweat mentally though at “work”.  Eitherway, we like to eat, thus if we are eating and not sweating, then we are not following God’s design for our lives.

We need to sweat. No where in the bible does God teach us it is a sin to sweat, and conversely, He does not reward the lazy.

Let’s exercise. Let’s go Massive. Let’s do so with great Intensity with our heart.

Do whatever you need to do in a massive way with great Intensity.

Sweating mentally or physically – God rewards the work, especially if you give Him the credit for it.
Do something with massive intensity, just do it with Massivity today!

Do it for your family today and for them in the future.  Action or no action is a choice.  Make good choices, one step at a time.

I hope you agree that DOMS, aka “No pain, no gain,” is a good Godly thing.

Peace out,
Your friend,
Brian
p.s. – yes, I’m still pretty darn sore today.
